ABOUT

WOMEN CELEBRATING WOMEN AROUND THE GLOBE. SUPERB SOUNDS BY A STELLAR CAST OF FEMALE ARTISTS.

This collective of fine female composer/performers brings audiences fresh programmes of genre-crossing music composed by its members, as well as an array of new music by diverse, talented female composers from around the globe. LILITH NIGHT is equally at home in Contemporary Classical, Jazz, Free Improvisation, Electronic, World Music, Art Pop & Avant Garde mediums.

In 2020, LILITH NIGHT began an online home to showcase an international network of women music makers. The collective has drawn on a wealth of fantastic talent from both Australia & abroad, featuring musicians who are exceptionally adept at crossing genres, all equally known as outstanding all rounders.

2019 saw a recording for ABC Australia, an Artist Residency at prestigious Bundanon Trust & concert appearance as part of their Riversdale Music Series, as well as events for Soundstream Adelaide and The National Trust. Currently directed by Australian musician Maryanne Piper, LILITH NIGHT’S cross-genre programming has been enthusiastically received among audiences, including collaborations with Issie Barratt (UK), Tania Giannouli (Greece), Eve Beglarian (USA), Leah Blankendaal (SA), Katia Beaugeais (NSW), Keyna Wilkins (NSW), Nicole Murphy (QLD), Christina Fuchs (Germany), and compositions by Elena Kats-Chernin (NSW), Ann Southam (Canada), Elisabeth Kelvin (Australia/Austria), Cat Hope (VIC) among others. This ever-growing collective of talent is bringing their own music to audiences, while highlighting female colleagues from multiple genres such as: Sunna Gunnlaugs (Iceland), Jenna Cave (NSW), Elisa Thorne (Canada), Alice Chance (NSW), Nadje Noordhuis (NYC), Tomeka Reid (Chicago), Eve Beglarian (NYC), plus many more.

Lilith Night began in 2018 with a chance meeting of two fine Australian musicians in Poland. Maryanne Piper (Australia / Germany) & Gabriella Smart (Adelaide) had both been involved in projects advocating women in music. Thus came about the idea of the original duo format: two women performing works by female composers, added to by Maryanne's experience across genres & in improvisation.

empowering music to dare to be equal, inclusive & accessible to all!

Lilith Night launches events in 2021, featuring a variety of female line-ups - all active in the current international music scene. Workshops & events foster adventurous thinking in younger audience members & offer developing female musicians opportunities to work alongside music mentors. Improvisation & composer/performer workshops with younger musicians in regional areas are on their way in Australia, plus an innovative concert series for children exploring the many fabulous female figures of history & today through a unique show combining music, film & digital media.

With the ongoing challenges posed by COVID-19 & the 2021 Delta outbreak in Australia, LILITH NIGHT has suspended all activities until 2022. Due to the large geographical distances that our projects entail, further organization is being postponed until public health regulations once again allow gatherings & indeed travel. Details to follow in the near future.

We look forward to welcoming you at an event soon!
